Just like last year, it took two weeks of practice and a pair of scrimmages for Washington State Cougars coach Mike Leach to settle on a starting quarterback. Only this time, it wasn’t the graduate transfer. It’s Anthony Gordon, who has ascended from juco afterthought — he filled out the 2016 recruiting class in June of that year — to leader of the most potent passing attack in the country.
As you can imagine, we talked about that at length. And we’re pretty fired up about it.
Show rundown:
- Small talk/beer: Jeff revisits some beers he had while camping last week (from Mirage and Matchless), while Craig harkens back to his time living in Vermont with a beer from Alchemist.
- Fall camp (14:45): Gordon is the starter at quarterback, beating out Gage Gubrud. Crazy! Should we be concerned about the offensive line backups?
- We’re ranked again! (54:50): WSU debuts as No. 23 in the AP poll. We still think it’s pretty awesome. And we also think it’s why guys like 5-star linebacker Sav’ell Smalls would take a second look at little ol’ Pullman.
- NFL Cougs (1:17:00): Gardner Minshew had a good second game! What else have we seen?
You’ll probably hate it. We don’t care.
(But if you do like it, please leave us a five-star review — it helps other people find the podcast.)
