In what could be one of two match-ups between top-25 teams in the Pac-12 next weekend, the game between the No. 19 Washington State Cougars and No. 10 Utah Utes gets an unusually bad channel and time. The school announced today kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Salt Lake City and the game will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1.
This comes as a bit of a surprise given the caliber of the teams involved and the likelihood that College Gameday will be on campus next weekend. Big Fox picked up the Washington Huskies and USC Trojans tilt that day, understandable because of the media markets involved, but ESPN’s selection of the UCLA Bruins and Arizona Wildcats after that was ... mindboggling, to say the least.
Fox was probably ecstatic to have a top-25 matchup fall to FS1 so, good for them? As if the 7:00 p.m. kickoff time isn’t bad enough in terms of having to wait all day for Cougar football, keep in mind it’s actually worse for Utah fans: it’s a home game AND it’s not until 8:00 p.m..
All things considered, not a great TV pickup for the Cougs and Utes.
