Cougar volleyball opens Pac-12 play with showdown against #8 Washington

The two squads renew their in-state rivalry in an important matchup for both sides.

Washington and Washington State volleyball have combined for just two losses this season. But that’s all going to change when the two square off in the Pac-12 opener later tonight.

Washington State is off to an 11-1 start, losing just five sets in their entire non-conference slate, including a three set loss to Iowa.

On the other sideline, Washington has lived up to their preseason hype. The Huskies are 9-1 after non-conference play including a couple of marquee wins over teams like #20 Illinois and two wins over #13 Wisconsin. They’ll enter this one as the 8th ranked team in the AVCA Coaches Poll.

Tonight, in Bohler Gym, the two rivals will matchup and, if their series last season is any indication, it should be a good battle. The teams met twice last season, with UW picking up the five set win at home in last year’s conference opener before WSU returned the favor in another five set thriller during the conference finale back in Pullman.

This one will get under way at 5:30 in Bohler Gym. If you can’t make it back to the Palouse for this one, you can watch it live on the Pac-12 Network.

It’s a big game... And Butch T. Cougar is even doing his part to get people out to Bohler for this one.
