HCA: Signing Day Primer

Rolovich looking to finish strong a week out from Signing day.

With National Signing Day next Wednesday new Cougar head coach Nick Rolovich has been making a push to both keep WSU’s current signees and add some impact defenders. According to 247sports.com a couple of exciting defenders are scheduled to visit the Palouse this weekend so far. Four star in-state cornerback and current Arizona commit Alphonse Oywak will hear his final signing day sales pitch from WSU as well as 3 star Texas defensive end Clinton Anokwuru. Anokwuru holds offers from Kansas and Virginia Tech.

This comes on the heels of a recruiting weekend that saw Rolovich bring in a couple defensive linemen and cornerbacks respectively. Touted linemen Waisale Muavesi (Provo UT) and Nusi Malani (San Mateo CA) sure seemed to enjoy their time on the Palouse. Cornerbacks Chau Smith (Wyoming commit out of Chicago) and Lamont Narcisse (Calabasas CA) also appear to be high on the Cougs.

Rolovich currently has 17 signed players from Mike Leach’s last class signed and still on board. Receiver Keyshawn Smith has been the only defection recently heading to Miami. This class includes recently elevated 4 star recruits Hawaii quarterback Jaydon DeLaura and California offensive lineman James McNorton. This leaves Rolo with 8 spots to fill which he has publicly said he wants to go to mostly defensive lineman and defensive backs. Recruits have been talking glowingly about the new staff on Twitter, but hasn’t translated into any commits as of yet. It’s going to be real interesting to see how things shake out the next week. Cougcenter will be here with news on any movement on the recruiting front.
