HCA: Chanelle Molina named Pac-12 Player of the Week

This is the first award for the senior

Molina

Washington State senior guard Chanelle Molina was named Pac-12 Player of the Week on Monday following a road trip to California. This is the first Player of the Week award and the second conference award for her - she was named Freshman of the Week in January of 2017.

She started the weekend off with 27 points on 11 of 16 shooting from the field in a loss to Stanford. Her then-season-high included going 5 of 8 from deep which helped propel her into the fourth spot on the school’s all-time 3-point-field goals made list.

She then outdid herself two nights later with a 28 point performance in a 96-75 victory over California. She added eight assists while going 12 of 16 from the field, four steals, and a block. The victory was the first at California since February of 2011.

She is now averaging 16.3 points, 4.3 assists, and 6.1 rebounds per game - all leading or second on the team.

Molina’s award is the first for the Cougars since 2018 and she is the first player not named Borislava Hristova to earn the award since Tia Presley did so in 2014.

The Cougars will head to Seattle on Saturday to take on the Huskies at Alaska Airlines Arena for the second time in as many weeks. In their first meeting on December 29th, the Cougars fell 65-56.
