Apple Cup 2020 TV schedule options announced

It’s on Black Friday. Everything else is still up in the air!

The Pac-12 and their TV broadcast partners announced a handful of what they have deemed “special date football television selections” and the Washington State Cougars find themselves on the schedule a couple of times — including the 2020 Apple Cup.

We already knew the game was going to be on Black Friday (which apparently, without anyone actually saying so, has become a de facto permanent change that we all need to accept), but now we also know the following:

  • The game will be on either ABC or ESPN
  • The game will be at 12:30 p.m. PT ... or 4 p.m. ... or 7:30 p.m.

Thanks for that info, Pac-12 and ESPN! I’ll be sure to block out those 10 hours on my schedule right now so that I’m available for all possibilities!

Seriously though, it’s not a surprise — as we’ve seen this fall, cancellations can wreak havoc with the TV schedule, as matchups that once were among the featured games are suddenly postponed because of COVID outbreaks, so it makes sense to just say “we’ll figure it out when we get closer.” It’s also less of a big deal, of course, because no fans will be making plans in advance of attendance.

On the more firm side, the following week’s game at the USC Trojans on Friday, Dec. 4, will be on FS1 and will be at either 6:30 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. Honestly not sure what would lead to a one-hour difference, since they’re not totally different windows, but whatever. I’m sure someone who makes 20x my salary has a very good reason for that one-hour option.

You can read about the other ones involving other teams here if you like.

There was no football practice yesterday, so no videos to post! Back at it today, I believe. That also means there’s very little Cougar content out there. :-/

WASHINGTON STATE (3)

Mike Leach’s departure from Washington State was abrupt, but the program replaced him quickly with another innovative offensive coach in Nick Rolovich, who led a resurgence at Hawaii. While that would seem to be a positive, the Cougars will have a new head coach, new coordinators on both sides of the ball, a new quarterback and several other new starters for 2020. That is the definition of instability, and it plays right into this system I’m detailing. You’ll find the Cougars on the short end of the stability mismatch angle in two of their first three games.
