After having their games cancelled in back-to-back weeks, it appears the Washington State Cougars will return to the field this week. At least for now.
Instead of again seeing their game get cancelled on Sunday, the Cougars instead just got a schedule change with the game moving from Friday to Sunday. But, as we’ve seen this season the situation is fluid essentially until the ball is actually kicked off.
That is especially true this week as USC will need to clear some testing protocols to avoid a cancellation. The Trojans’ team activities have been paused with a plan to resume on Tuesday. In order for that to happen, USC will need to clear testing protocols on Monday. If that doesn’t happen today, thee game this week will be back to being fully in question, if not cancelled.
As of Sunday, the Trojans had four positive cases among football players with another seven players in quarantine due to contact tracing.
All of that is without even mentioning the WSU side of this. The Cougars were forced to the sidelines the last two weeks due to their own positive case and quarantine issues. So while USC will need to clear some tests, the Cougars may need to as well in order for the game to remain on.
All of this is the long way of saying the Cougars are playing on Sunday. But also maybe not. Ask us again at 5:58 p.m. on Sunday.
