Christmas continued on Monday for two Cougar freshman when Efe Abogidi and Charlisse Leger-Walker were both named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week. The men’s and women’s team finished last week with a combined 3-1 record with the only loss coming from the women’s 69-65 loss to eighth ranked Oregon.
Abogidi helped lead the Cougars to a 90-62 victory over Prairie View A&M and then a 62-52 victory over Northwestern State. He finished the two games going a combined 10 of 11 from the line, 26 rebounds, 31 points, and eight blocks. He is currently riding a three game double-double streak.
This is the second Pac-12 Freshman of the Week award for Leger-Walker this season - she now owns two of the 10 total Freshman of the Week awards for the Cougar women’s team. She started her week against Oregon and put up 20 points, four assists, and three rebounds. She followed that performance up with 12 points, three steals, and four rebounds in a 73-52 victory over Eastern Washington in a game that she played only 21 minutes - about 18 minutes less than what she normally plays.
The men’s team will pick back up on Thursday when they host Arizona State and two days later will take on Arizona to complete their seven-game home-stand. The women will start a two-game road trip with Utah on Friday and Colorado on Sunday.
