Christmas continued on Monday for two Cougar freshman when Efe Abogidi and Charlisse Leger-Walker were both named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week. The men’s and women’s team finished last week with a combined 3-1 record with the only loss coming from the women’s 69-65 loss to eighth ranked Oregon.
Abogidi helped lead the Cougars to a 90-62 victory over Prairie View A&M and then a 62-52 victory over Northwestern State. He finished the two games going a combined 10 of 11 from the line, 26 rebounds, 31 points, and eight blocks. He is currently riding a three game double-double streak.
This is the second Pac-12 Freshman of the Week award for Leger-Walker this season - she now owns two of the 10 total Freshman of the Week awards for the Cougar women’s team. She started her week against Oregon and put up 20 points, four assists, and three rebounds. She followed that performance up with 12 points, three steals, and four rebounds in a 73-52 victory over Eastern Washington in a game that she played only 21 minutes - about 18 minutes less than what she normally plays.
The men’s team will pick back up on Thursday when they host Arizona State and two days later will take on Arizona to complete their seven-game home-stand. The women will start a two-game road trip with Utah on Friday and Colorado on Sunday.
Charlisse Leger-Walker has once again been named the Pac-12 Conference Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday, Dec. 28. It is the second time over the last three weeks that the Cougar guard has earned the accolade.
Washington State Men’s Basketball freshman Efe Abogidi was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for the week ending on Dec. 27, the conference office announced Monday. Abogidi became the first Cougar to earn the freshman award since the honor was established prior to the 2019-20 season.
It’s been more than 35 years since a Washington State freshman recorded a double-double in three straight games, so Efe Abogidi, having accomplished the feat against Montana State, Northwestern State and Prairie View A&M was rewarded appropriately on Monday when the Pac-12 Conference announced its weekly honors.
The Pac-12 Conference has announced tip-times and television schedules for league games that will be played from Jan. 1 through Jan. 17. The Washington State women’s basketball team has picked up an addition five games on the Pac-12 Network.
