Anthony Gordon and Dezmon Patmon are headed to the NFL Combine

NCAA Football: Washington State at Arizona State Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

It’s been reported before, but yesterday the NFL officially announced all invites to the 2020 NFL Combine, and Anthony Gordon and Dezmon Patmon of your Washington State Cougars are among the 337 NFL hopefuls who will try to impress scouts in Indianapolis.

This marks the third straight year WSU sent a quarterback to the week-long job interview. Gordon follows in the footsteps of Luke Falk and Gardner Minshew II, just as he did at the Senior Bowl. Patmon is the first WSU receiver to get an invite since Tavares Martin Jr. went in 2018.

Theo Lawson of The Spokesman-Review first reported on Patmon’s invite back on Feb. 3, and he reported on Gordon’s on Feb. 5.

Gordon is coming off a great performance at the Senior Bowl. His legendary story continues to roll, and he could become one of the few athletes drafted in both the MLB and NFL drafts. Gordon’s timing could benefit him, as he showed this season how well he is at improvising. NFL teams are warming up to quarterbacks being able to improvise like Gordon does, much like the most recent Super Bowl MVP. I’m not saying Gordon is Patrick Mahomes, but the improvisation skills are there.

Patmon’s size will catch the eye of NFL scouts, and here’s hoping he puts up a big performance on an important stage. He’s 22 years old and I’ve always wondered what it would be like if we had him for one more season. Remember: He played in four games as a true freshman in 2016 (and only caught two passes), a couple years before the NCAA allowed players in his shoes to redshirt. At any rate, he definitely has the potential to do big things.

The NFL Combine is Feb. 23 - March 1.
