Washington State got their first commitment for the 2021 recruiting class last Friday when Orion Peters announced his commitment to the Crimson and Gray. On Sunday, Nick Rolovich and company were included in a top-11 for an in-state athlete in Will Latu according to Brandon Huffman of 247Sports.
The safety out of Bethel High School in Spanaway has a comparison to a guy that many Cougar fans will remember, Shalom Luani, the hard hitting safety that played all around the field. Standing at 6’2, 220 pounds Latu has two inches and about 20 pounds on Luani who is currently signed with the Houston Texans.
In an interview with 247Sports and Huffman, Latu said “The Cougars. They got a new coaching staff and they already showing me major love. I love to talk with the coaches about anyting and they said I can build that program and it’ll be a great fit for me.”
While in high school, Latu would line up all over the field and proved he could do it well when he rushed for just over 700 yards and 14 touchdowns while adding another 214 yards and five touchdowns on his 12 receptions. He added four interceptions on the defensive side of the ball as well.
He is listed as the 6th ranked recruit for the 2020 class in the state of Washington and is the 17th ranked ATH in the nation by 247Sports. ESPN also has him as their 288th player in their top-300
The other 10 teams include Arizona State, Colorado, Oregon State, USC, Utah, Washington, Kansas State, Michigan, Nebraska, and Tennessee.
