Good morning, Coug fans! It’s been a strange week, hasn’t it? In times of change, it’s difficult to talk about anything else.
On a personal note surrounding the events of this past week, while I am sure there’s a lot more behind the scenes that I don’t know about (I go to a Liberal Arts school, and by no means understand what it’s like to be a student athlete)- I find it incredibly difficult to show anything but support for those who are speaking out for the #WeAreUnited movement.
We are desperately searching for normalcy in a country that is unfortunately still riddled with injustice, virus, and unrest. A football season is not a bandaid for suddenly feeling like times have changed.
I’ve said this before, and I will say it many more times: as fans, our support does not stop if we lose. I grew up in the Paul Wulff era, I would not be writing this if that were the case.
If we sit down every Gameday ready to unconditionally support our athletes, it’s our job to listen to them and support them outside of gameplay. This isn’t football specific either. But, that’s right in front of us. I doubt these concerns will suddenly go away with soccer or basketball.
I want a football season just as much as the next person, but at what cost? I guess that’s not up to me, I don’t make the budget.
Phew, okay. On a lighter note, Kyle Smith -our hero- was interviewed for Cougar Chats, and you can watch it here! I know nothing makes me feel better than Nerdball. Smith talks recruiting, a bit of Klay Game, and more.
I’m assuming it was taped before CJ announced he was entering the NBA draft, so if you need to pause and recover from Matt Chazanow’s optimism around keeping CJ- I understand, and I am with you.
Stay safe and healthy!
