In 2019, as a sophomore, the 6’2” 207-lb quarterback led his high school to an Arizona 4A second place finish and a 10-4 record. He tallied 4,016 yards while completing 231 of his 359 passes. He had 41 touchdowns and 14 interceptions and added 154 yards on the ground with his 25 carries and added one touchdown on the ground.
A year before, he threw for 1,485 yards, 20 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 91 of his 173 passes as a freshman.
Lara chose the Cougars over offers from Oregon State, Arizona, Kansas, Iowa State, and William & Mary. He is listed as the 31st ranked pro-style quarterback in the nation
His commitment comes a few months after Eleanor Roosevelt High School quarterback Xavier Ward committed for the 2021 class.

While the Cougs landed Lara, they also lost one of their more productive players on the other side of the ball as Cosmas Kwete entered the transfer portal. The true sophomore defensive end had 20 tackles and one fumble recovery in his 11 games in 2019. He was one of just two true freshman to appear in more than four games last season.
He becomes the fourth player to enter the transfer portal this year as receivers Tay Martin, Mike Pettway, Rodrick Fisher, and Kassidy Woods have all entered the portal. Skyler Thomas originally entered his name into the transfer portal but removed his name shortly after and announced that he would be returning to Pullman.
