Gardner Minshew, Ryan Fitzpatrick debate mustache vs. beard debate

It’s an age old debate, and on Tuesday the two starting QBs in this week’s Thursday Night Football matchup weighed in.

During his time on the Palouse, Minshew Mania took the country by storm for two big reasons. The first (obviously) was his stellar play that led WSU to their best season in 15 years. The second (even more obviously) was his world famous Mississippi Mustache.

Minshew Mania has continued now that he’s in his sophomore season in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars. On the field, he’s continuing to show that he has what it takes to play quarterback at the pro level. Off the field, his mustache continues to be a marketing dream.

This Thursday, Minshew steps into the national stage on Thursday Night Football as he leads the Jaguars in a battle of Florida-based teams against the Dolphins.

Miami is led quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, another player with recognizable facial hair. During a press conference Tuesday, Fitzpatrick was asked about how his beard matched up with Minshew’s mustache.

“The mustaches versus the beard,” Fitzpatrick said. “I think the beard is a cooler look. I think guys that grow mustaches a lot of times have patchy sides for their beards so they just stick with the mustache.”

Shots fired.

Of course, when Minshew held his press conference later the day, the media had to ask for his response.

Short. Sweet. And to the point. You wouldn’t expect anything less from Minshew.

In the end, the little feud won’t mean much... But it does help provide some much needed intrigue to a Thursday Night matchup that doesn’t have much going for it besides watching Minshew play.

Minshew, his mustache and the Jags will host Fitzpatrick, his beard and the Dolphins this Thursday night at 5:20 p.m. PT. TV coverage can be seen on the NFL Network.
