For the third time this season and second time in a row, Charlisse Leger-Walker was named Freshman of the Week by the Pac-12 Conference. With the award announcement on Monday, she joins Borislava Hristova as the only two freshman with most Pac-12 awards won by a freshman.
This news should not come as a surprise to you unless you have been living under a rock and not paying attention to this Women’s team. She has helped lead the Cougars to a 6-1 record with their only blemish coming from a 69-65 loss to #8 ranked Oregon right before Christmas.
Leger-Walker started off the new year with 23 points, four steals, three assists, and four rebounds in a 79-74 victory over Utah. She followed up that performance with a double-double when she put up 16 points and 10 assists. She added six rebounds and 6 steals to help lead the Cougars to a 76-63 victory over Colorado to finish off the road trip.
Though seven games this season Leger-Walker leads the Cougars in field goals, three-pointers, free throws, points, assists, and steals. She leads the conference in points per game and steals per game and is ranked 8th in assists per game. For a more in depth look into her statistics, check out Craig Powers’ article written yesterday.
Leger-Walker and the Cougs return home this weekend with a series against the Arizona schools starting Friday when the host Arizona State (7-3) at 4:00 pm and continue on Sunday when Arizona (8-1) comes to town - tip off for the game is at 11:00 am. Both games will be televised on Pac-12 Networks. If you have not yet had the chance to watch the Women play this season, I highly suggest tuning into these games.
