For the seventh time this season, Washington State freshman Charlisse Leger-Walker was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week. The conference announced Monday that she won her second straight award which puts her among elite company as she is just the third Pac-12 freshman to win the award seven times. She joins California’s Kristine Anigwe and Washington’s Kelsey Plum. Anigwe won the award eight times during the 2015-16 season while Plum won the award seven times during the 2013-14 season.

Leger-Walker averaged 24 points and 2 rebounds while shooting .455 from the field and .389 from deep. She also went 11 of 15 from the line during the Cougars two games against the Arizona schools.

On Friday in 60-51 loss to against #10 Arizona, she had a team high 19 points. She added two rebounds and an assist but the Cougs fell short in the fourth quarter when the Wildcats held the Cougs to just 9 points.

She would then tie her career high on Sunday with 29 points in the 67-61 loss to Arizona Sate. She also had two steals, two rebounds, and a block in the loss. Like the game against the Wildcats, the Cougs comeback fell just short as they tried to climb out of a 51-36 deficit at the start of the fourth quarter.

Her 29 points on Sunday means that she now holds the school record for the most 20-point games for a freshman. She also retook the top spot in the conference for points per game with 19.5 - she has an opportunity to become the first Pac-12 freshman to lead the conference in points per game at the end of the season.

The Cougs will return home for the final three games of the season. Up next is Colorado on Friday followed by Utah on Sunday. Both games are at noon and can be live streamed on the Washington State website. They will finish their season the following Sunday (2/28) against Washington at 1:00 pm. That game will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks.
