HCA: Charlisse Leger-Walker wins Pac-12 Freshman of the Week

Stop me if you have heard this one before

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: JAN 29 Women’s Stanford at Washington State

I really could just pre-write these and set to an auto release every week with how often the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week awards are being handed out to Charlisse Leger-Walker. For the sixth time in the past nine weeks, the conference announced that the freshman guard from New Zealand was the winner of the weekly award.

Leger-Walker finished her week averaging 26 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game while going 16 of 19 from the line against #5 UCLA and USC. She would also hit the game sealing three against the Bruins to help lead the Cougars to their first victory of a top-5 opponent in program history.

The numbers that she put up could very well have earned her the Pac-12 Player of the Week on top of the Freshman of the Week award. For the first time this year, she was snubbed on a weekly award.

In the 67-63 victory over the Bruins, she hit four triples and went 10 of 12 from the line in a 28 point game - just one point shy of her career high. She added three rebounds as well as a block and an assist.

On Sunday, in the 81-71 loss against the Trojans, she would hit four more three-pointers and go 6 of 7 from the line in a 24 point game. She would also dish out seven assists and haul in four rebounds in her first game that she did not commit a turnover.

Next, the Cougars will head down to Tucson to take on Arizona on Friday at 6:00 pm on Pac-12 Networks. They will follow that up with a game against Arizona State on Sunday at 11:00 am.
