Pat Chun has worked wonders since he arrived at Washington State in 2018. Various programs have seen historic success while nearly every head coaching hire he has made has been a home run. On the fundraising front, he was able to complete the Bailey-Brayton baseball clubhouse that was on the sideline for years and followed that with a multi-million dollar sponsorship deal to put Gesa Credit Union’s name on the Martin Stadium field.
Chun has done a lot of great things, which is why a report that he may have interviewed to fill the vacant AD position at Kansas hit a lot of Coug fans hard on Tuesday.
Mike Vernon was the first to make the report:
KU AD Hearings/Thoughts:

• Hearing: Wazzu AD Pat Chun impressed in interviews.
• Thought: Wazzu is the hardest P5 job in the country. Chun has been decisive & smart in his hirings. Would make sense to me.
• Hearing: committee wanted a KU person but backed off that as a need
After that, Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports backed up that report... At least initially. He later deleted his initial post.
And now the tweet’s gone... pic.twitter.com/Lb4Q2ZSx5D

After those first two reports, Theo Lawson of the Spokesman Review did his homework. Citing “a source with close knowledge of the situation,” Lawson reported that Chun has not interviewed for the position at Kansas and does not intend to. He goes on to clarify that while it’s unclear whether the sides have communicated, Chun has not gone through a formal interview.
After his initial report, Dodd would later support Lawson’s report, citing Chun directly.
Patrick Chun says he is not a candidate for the Kansas AD job.

It was a wild six hours or so for Washington State fans Tuesday morning. Cougar fans are all too used to seeing coaches and ADs that find success in Pullman appear in the rumor mill for other programs but, at least for now, Chun appears to be staying at WSU. He’s even stepping into the spotlight and representing the Cougs on the national stage.
Thank you to @NACDA & @NACDABob for this opportunity. Honored to serve and excited about the future of our industry.
