Washington State senior goal keeper Marissa Zucchetto was named Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday following a great performance against the 22nd ranked Huskies on Friday. This is her first award of the season and the Cougars first keeper of the week award since 2018 when Rachel Johnson (Thompson) took home the honor. This is the Cougars second award this season as Mykiaa Minniss was named Pac-12 Player of the Week back in February.
In Friday’s game against the Huskies, she tallied a career high 13 saves in a 0-0 2OT game. Her 13 saves is the most by a Pac-12 goalkeeper this season and is the first time a Cougar goalkeeper had double digit saves since Ella Dederick had 11 in October of 2015. It is also the most for a Cougar since Natalie McDowell had 18 against UCSB in October of 1993.
Zucchetto finished her senior season with five clean games on the season which ranked her tied for fifth in the conference. She had 44 saves and gave up just 12 goals on the year and posted a 6-3-3 record.
The Cougars season unfortunately came to an end Monday as well as they were not selected for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016. They finished the year 6-3-3 and 2-2-3 in conference.
