WSU baseball takes on Cal

Today at 7!

Washington State Cougars Baseball Jack Ellis/CougCenter

Good morning, Coug fans! Today our Washington State Cougars begin their stretch against Cal, who is currently sitting on an 18-17 overall, 5-7 Pac 12 record.

Cal has some strong players- Nathan Manning averages .413 up at bat, and scored his first home run this season against Oregon State. However, the team themselves wound up getting swept by Oregon State, every rose has its thorn.

Darren Baker leads Cal in times at bat, a whopping 143, and he has the most runs and hits, 28 and 46 respectively.

Dylan Beavers leads the team in home runs- 10 this season, and the highest RBI at 32. I would say it’s not out of pocket to hope he’s had an off day today.

Sean Sullivan and Paulshawn Pasqualotto are two stand out players with similar sounding first names, in a sense. Pasqualotto has the highest wins and losses, so he’s a toss up. Sullivan has started the most games, but has the second highest loss count (right under his buddy Pasqualotto).

Another wild card pitcher is Josh White- who leads the team in strikeouts and has an earned run average of 1.17.

Overall, I’m assuming baseball is susceptible to Cal bullshit, so I offer nothing but support! The game tips off at 7 tonight, and airs on Pac 12 Washington. I hope everyone has a great weekend, I know some of us were hoping to be up there for the spring football scrimmage game, myself included, but I keep telling myself that the further away things get, the more special they’ll feel when we’re all able to safely gather again. There is light at the end of the tunnel! Stay healthy my friends.

A GRIP ON SPORTS • For those of you who love to putter in the garden, rain predicted for Saturdays can ruin your outlook. I get that. Been there. But for others, such things are a convenient excuse for avoiding getting dirt stains all over your hands. And for plopping in a chair for a day of sports on TV. For those of you who feel that way, sorry. This Saturday’s rain won’t be accompanied by the best of the sports world.
