WSU baseball takes game 1 of the Boeing Apple Cup

And they’re looking to keep up momentum.

Washington State Cougars Baseball Jack Ellis/CougCenter

Good morning, Coug fans! In case you missed it yesterday, your Washington State Cougars baseball team absolutely crushed the University of Washington Huskies. Read that delightful sentence again.

To recap- the Cougs took the game 8-1, with Brandon White pitching six great innings.

Some strong WSU batting moments included player of the game Jack Smith grabbing a two-run single, along with a home run for Preston Clifford.

Now, the Huskies are 19-29 this season (looking to end 19-31 if all goes as planned) and some notable moments on their end, just to anticipate, was Noah Hsue with an RBI. Along with some pitching success, two true freshman Brock Gillis and Michael Brown both found toeholds with Gillis pitching two scoreless innings, and Brown nabbing two doubles.

The Cougs found most of their success in the sixth inning, taking the score from 1-1 to an incredible 8-1. They capitalized on Washington’s rotating pitchers and were able to dominate the rest of the game.

The biggest issue for the Huskies was their complete inability to rally after the Cougs got hot during the sixth. In my opinion, if Washington State comes out with the same drive and momentum this series could absolutely be ours. And who doesn’t love a crushing defeat of UW?

Here’s Clifford’s homer, in case you wanted to watch it again and again.

You can follow along on Twitter ( @wsucougarbsb ) or watch the game at 3:05 on Pac 12 Networks. Let’s grab this series, Cougs! Everyone have a great weekend.
