Good afternoon Coug fans! Summer rolls on, but each passing day brings us closer and closer to Coug athletics.

While basketball season is far, far away, our student athletes are working hard both physically and academically- so much so that your favorite women’s basketball team recently earned the program’s first WBCA Top 25 Academic Honor Roll spot. The WBCA is the Women’s Basketball Coaching Association, and is an organization dedicated to inspiring players beyond their athletic accomplishments, and strives to cultivate good people behind the athletic accomplishments. They focus heavily on leadership and community, which are two values I know our WSU WBB team is familiar with!

I know for any students reading this, the last thing you want to talk about is GPAs (as a recent college grad myself, I share your pain)- however, our Washington State WBB sunk an impressive 3.629 GPA during their most recent season, which is the 20th highest GPA across Division I women’s basketball. The WBCA Honor Roll honors teams throughout divisions I, II, and III along with junior colleges, which makes this even more impressive.

So not only was this most recent 2020/2021 season groundbreaking in terms of reaching the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 30 years, but they did all that while also making program history for grades. Once again I am blown away by the women in this program.

The 3.629 GPA is also the highest in program history. They know their stuff both on and off the court.

Portland State and Arizona State also ranked on the list, which were the only other schools that might sound familiar in terms of direct opponents. I’m looking forward to next season, I can only assume the success will continue. Go Cougs!
