The first week of the NFL season wraps up tonight with Monday Night Football, but the Washington State Cougars in the NFL got all of their work in on Sunday. It was a fairly quiet day for the Cougs with a handful sitting out due to injury or current place on the depth chart. Instead, it was a pair of defenders getting the most action.
Andre Dillard, Eagles
Dillard came off the bench on Sunday, having lost a training camp battle for the starting left tackle job. With the Eagles signing starting LT Jordan Mailata to a long-term extension on Saturday, Dillard’s future with the team remains in doubt.
Frankie Luvu, Panthers
Luvu posted a pair of tackles on Sunday, one on defense and the other on special teams. Luvu has carved out a role with the Panthers and should continue to see playing time as the season progresses. He was featured last week in a video by the Panthers as they wrapped up camp.
Gardner Minshew, Eagles
Minshew was inactive on Sunday. He is currently the No. 3 quarterback in Philadelphia behind starter Jalen Hurts and backup Joe Flacco.
Jalen Thompson, Cardinals
Thompson started at free safety for the Cardinals and finished the game with a pair of solo tackles. He did surrender a touchdown in coverage against AJ Brown, but a lot of defensive backs will have that happen this season.
Dezmon Patmon, Colts
Patmon landed on injured reserve with a foot injury, which means he will miss at least three games. Week 1 was the first of those three.
Daniel Ekuale, Patriots
Ekuale landed on the Patriots practice squad after being part of the final roster cut down in Jacksonville. He was not elevated to the active roster this week.
Easop Winston Jr, Saints
Winston Jr. is on the Saints practice squad and was not promoted to the active roster this week. The Saints have a lot of injuries at wide receiver, so Winston could see some action at some point in the near future.
River Cracraft, 49ers
Cracraft is on the 49ers practice squad and was not promoted to the active roster this week.
