Washington State welcomes Colorado on senior night (GAME THREAD)

NCAA Football: Washington State at California Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports

Here we are Coug fans. It’s game 11, and our Washington State Cougars are teetering on the edge of bowl ineligibility. At least technically. We all know that, barring something absolutely wild, we’ll be sitting at home this holiday season without a bowl game.

That’s an awfully negative sentiment, but it’s also reality. A win today over the Colorado Buffaloes—did you know Deion Sanders is the Buffs’ coach?!?!—means an Apple Cup loss is the only thing stopping the Cougs from going bowling. And if you’ve watched WSU and UW this season, I think you know how that should project.

But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves. WSU has to take care of business today against a Buffaloes squad whose season kind of mirrors the Cougs’: Hot start, lots of hype, and then the inevitable crash back down to earth. In Colorado’s case, it was a 3-0 start, which included a win over then-nationally ranked TCU, followed by a win over one-time rival Nebraska.

Colorado even sprinkled in a crushing loss against Stanford, something WSU fans know about, although it a different fashion, but a crushing loss nonetheless.

So two teams sitting at 4-6 with tough season finales meet under the cold skies of Pullman, Wash. tonight, likely in front of a sparse crowd thanks to the start of Thanksgiving break for students. Despite the negativity surrounding this team and this game, the getups WSU will have on tonight look especially nice:

And this beanie giveaway is not to be missed:

It’s also senior night, and it’d be nice if we could send our seniors out on a winning note. Lord knows they’ve been through a ton during their time in Pullman.

The Cougs are temporary winners in the courtroom. Will they be winners on the field for the first time in nearly two months? Tune in to FS1 at 7:30 p.m. PST and talk about it here.

Go Cougs.
