Is it still Baxter’s beer of the game if it isn’t a beer? Well, that’s a question you’ll have to ponder because for the 2018 Apple Cup, Baxter is going with a cider. I can’t believe he’s never thought of this before.
The cider of choice is One Tree Hard Cider Cranberry. One Tree is from Spokane, so it has some of that Eastern Washington flavor. It also has the right color—a nice rich crimson. Those two things alone made it enough for Bax and I to pull the trigger on breaking from the tradition of picking beer that has served us well for many years.
I’m still way, way out of the country. For transparency, I’m typing this on Saturday (at 2 am) for the Friday night football game in Pullman. I’d tell you what happens, but I don’t want to spoil it.
I decided to record the video (link for those on Apple News) in a famous place this week. You probably recognize it from the 2000 Olympics and also every picture ever of Sydney. I apologize for the wind noise, it was blowing really hard—enough to keep me sitting on the tarmac for over an hour shortly after filming this video*.
Let us know what you’re having to calm the nerves for the Apple Cup. Here’s hoping I get to do one more of these videos in Australia before I leave on December 5.
Go Cougs! Beat the Huskies.
*Australia airport security rules. I got to the airport an hour before my flight and had time to casually sip on a beer with my coworker before boarding.
