Happy Cougar Football Friday, fellow Coug fans. Our Washington State Cougars take on Air Force today in the Cheez-It Bowl, in case you’ve been in a coma in recent weeks. It’s a battle of opposites—Air Force’s triple option attack will chew up the clock, while WSU’s Air Raid will do what it always does.
By now, hopefully you caught Podcast vs. Everybody’s preview, as well as Jesse’s look at the Air Force offense. Craig also gave a rundown of all things Air Force. Emma gave us the tale of the tape when it comes to the two team’s mascots.
The Cougs are looking for a seventh win and a fifth straight winning season. They’ll have their hands full with Air Force today in a baseball stadium in the desert. Fun fact: The last time WSU played a football game in a baseball stadium was back on Nov. 5, 2011 when the Cougs lost 30-7 to the California Golden Bears in the rain.
Another fun fact: WSU is looking for its second Cheez-It Bowl victory ever. How so? The Cheez-It Bowl has its roots in Tucson, where WSU beat Utah in the Copper Bowl back in 1992. The Copper Bowl eventually became the Insight.com bowl and moved to Phoenix. It then switched to the Insight Bowl before Buffalo Wild Wings took over sponsorship. It then saw another name change to the Cactus Bowl before Cheez-It started its sponsorship in last year’s game.
OK, enough of the irrelevant trivia.
Three Bold Predictions
- Marcus Strong will get another bowl game pick six but this time he’ll have zero fun and go without the taunting penalty.
- There will be two targeting ejections in the game.
- Anthony Gordon gets his 50th touchdown pass in the final minute to give WSU the victory.
Let’s go.
