Kamie Ethridge agrees to contract extension with Washington State

+

In her short time in charge, Kamie Ethridge has taken the WSU women’s basketball program to places they have never been before. On Tuesday, Washington State announced that they plan to keep Ethridge around their program a little longer to try and continue that trend. WSU Director of Athletics Pat Chun announced that Ethridge has signed a one-year contract extension with Ethridge. The contract will now run through the 2027-28 season. In 2018, Ethridge took over a program that had only been to the NCAA Tournament once. Since then, she has raised the bar for the program every year. Under Ethridge’s leadership, the Cougars have seen their win total increase every season. In 2021 the team returned to the big dance. Then, in 2022, the team did it again. Ethridge has also led WSU to program records in regular season wins (19 in 2021-22), Pac-12 conference wins (11 that same 2021-22 campaign) and also led the team to their first ever AP top-25 ranking. "Coach Ethridge continues to lead our women’s basketball program to unprecedented heights," said Chun in the athletic department’s official release. "Kamie’s commitment to building a program centered on excellence has been inspiring to watch. We are appreciative of the incredible achievements these past few years and excited for what the future holds."

WSU men’s basketball coach Kyle Smith navigating ‘tricky’ offseason impacted by transfer portal

+

Kyle Smith summed up his offseason so far. "One word: tricky," Washington State’s men’s basketball coach said Friday. The Cougars wrapped up their best season in a decade March 29, when they bowed out of the NIT tournament in the semifinal round in New York with a loss to Texas A&M. Over the five weeks that followed, the NCAA transfer portal depleted much of WSU’s roster, claiming four regulars in the team’s lineup. End of a California Rose Bowl Era?

+

I do not know if this move ends up permanent. Texas most likely will try to convince the Rose Bowl not to leave its borders if Rose Bowl plays in their state. The no income tax will be attractive. Nevada temp move would be okay, but Texas?

He is embracing life in Jacksonville. I think he'll be a fan favorite very soon. Be sure to watch the interview.

Happy Father's Day! Here are some #DadJokes from WSU football

Nothing quite like watching college kids tell some terrible jokes and then laugh when they get it.

Happy 100th birthday, WSU fight song!

Something I didn't know: According to the book "College Fight Songs II," it's actually creatively titled "The Fight Song." The music was composed by WSU student Phyllis Sayles. Another student Zella Melcher wrote the lyrics. Be sure to play and sing this as loudly as possible in your office today.

WSU unveils uniform combo for Alamo Bowl vs. Iowa State

This is a new one! I'll have you know that a number of CougCenter authors have been pining for this one for some time -- while some of us think the all-crimson looks like ketchup, we've taken to calling this one the "Heinz ketchup bottle." LONG LIVE THE KETCHUP BOTTLE!

Andre Dillard named 3rd team AP All-American

What a cool honor for the senior left tackle. Gardner Minshew did not make the top three teams, not exactly a huge surprise in a year when the top three finishers in Heisman Trophy voting were all quarterbacks.
