You may have been wondering who was returning kicks for WSU in this year’s Apple Cup and Sun Bowl. Well, his name is Kaleb Fossum and he may become a lot more recognizable to the Cougar Nation this upcoming season.
Fossum was WSU’s holder last year in his freshman season. He came to the Cougars as walk-on receiver out of El Toro high school in Orange County. He was first team All-CIF and the MVP of the South Coast League, but his 5-foot-10 187 pound frame may have scared off Power 5 teams from pursuing him heavily. His profile on 247sports.com lists no Power 5 offers. Turns out the Cougars may have got themselves a steal.
A source close to the program has told Cougcenter that the coaches are really high on Fossum and could see him emerging on both kick returns and on the inside receiver rotation. The name Danny Amendola has even been thrown around as a comparison as a former Mike Leach walk-on receiver. The Cougs return River Cracraft, Robert Lewis, and Kyle Sweet as inside receivers, but as we know there is plenty of reps to go around in the Air Raid for wideouts. The coaches were very impressed by the work Fossum did on special teams this year as a holder, which gives them confidence in his reliability at other positions.
Dom Williams is apparently sold on Fossum.

Mike Leach and his staff have done a great job of unearthing gems and it appears Fossum may be the next one to come out of nowhere.
