WSU volleyball sweeps Idaho to extend its winning streak to 11 matches

New, 2 comments

Washington State’s volleyball team continued its winning ways on Thursday night with a sweep of Idaho. The Cougs victory over Idaho saw them start off sluggishly in each set, before eventually pulling away from the Vandals. This is the fifth straight sweep by the Cougs, dating back to their last home tournament when they swept Montana.

The first set saw Washington State and Idaho hit the ball well immediately out of the gate, and as a result both teams were scoring and scoring quickly. Washington State was the first team to cool off and that allowed Idaho to take a 15-12 lead. Eventually the Cougs figured out their problems -- and the Vandals started to cool off -- as WSU ended up winning the set, 25-22.

Unlike the first set, both teams started the second set hitting poorly and that allowed Idaho to hang around. Ver’Leea Hardaway’s two kills in the second set were at crucial times and helped stem the Vandals early momentum. Despite their best hitting performance of the night (.222), Idaho still lost the second set, 20-25.

The third set saw the worst performance from Idaho, and the best performance from Washington State. Wazzu saw Kyra Holt at her finest, as she recorded six kills in the match deciding set. Washington State also put together its best hitting performance of the night, and easily cruised to the set (and match) victory.
