WSU volleyball is now 12-0 after a sweep of Seattle U

Washington State won its 12th straight match in dominating fashion on Friday morning. The Cougs swept the Redhawks of Seattle U, and they have now swept their last six opponents. This match saw the Cougs start out fast in the first set and then coast through the remaining sets to win the match.

The first set started off great for the Cougs, as they initially led it 7-1. Then both squads started to regress to the mean; basically the Cougs stopped hitting, and Seattle U started hitting. That being said, Seattle U’s turn around was too late and WSU captured the first set by a score of 25-13.

In the second set, WSU started off slow and Seattle U took advantage of it. It took a couple of crucial kills by Kyra Holt to allow the Cougs to pull out in front of the Redhawks. While Seattle U did put together its best hitting performance of the night (.174), the Redhawks were unable to keep up with WSU’s superior hitting (.357). Washington State took the second set by a score of 25-15.

The Cougs managed to start off the third and final set, even slower than the started the second set. As a result of the slow start, WSU allowed Seattle to stick around and keep the match close. This set was probably the worst played of the three as both teams struggled with attacking and serving: the Cougs and Redhawks made a combined nine attack errors and eight serve errors. That being said, Washington State managed to keep its set winning streak alive, and won 25-20.

The Cougs look to finish nonconference play undefeated, as they take on Nevada at 7:00pm in Bohler Gym.
