One month ago yesterday the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Miami Heat to win the NBA title. As part of the team, one of our favorite Australian former Cougar centers who has never fouled anyone in his life, Aron Bayes, walked away with a championship ring.
So much has happened in the past month in the NBA. LeBron James has left the Heat for the Cavs. Carmelo resigned with the Knicks. Our other favorite Australian Brock Motum and notable non-Australian DJ Shelton are playing for Summer League teams. Over that time, one thing hasn't changed: former Cougar basketball player Aron Baynes is still an NBA champion.
Baynes and his teammate and fellow countryman Patty Mills took the NBA championship trophy, the Larry O'Brien trophy on a tour of their homeland. The guys stopped in Melbourne for a Q & A with Spurs fans and, later, made an appearance on live TV, without the knowledge of the reporter.
Fox Sports News reporter Julian de Stoop was doing a live report on the Australian Football League when Baynes and his teammate Mills, who is recovering from surgery, unexpectedly crashed the party.
@FOXSportsNews hope you got #Lazzas good side! @Patty_Mills said the hit from @JDESTOOP80_FOX will keep em out another couple months
