HCA: WSU set to take on No. 1 seed Georgetown in NCAA 2nd round

The WSU soccer team charged into the second round of the NCAA tournament last week with a 5-1 drubbing of Montana, but the Cougars now face what will be their stiffest tournament challenge in ... well, maybe ever: The No. 1 seed Georgetown Hoyas, who are undefeated and the second-ranked team in the country.

Kickoff is at 10:30 a.m. PT and can be watched via Georgetown’s live stream.

There are reasons to like the Cougs’ chances, though. First, WSU played the No. 1 ranked team, Stanford, to a 1-1 draw in the penultimate regular season game. It was just the second draw of the season for the Cardinal, who finished the season without a loss.

Of course, that game was in Pullman. This game is not. But fortune might actually be smiling on the Cougars: Rather than playing on the Hoyas’ home field, the game has been moved to George Washington University because of poor field conditions at Georgetown.

Additionally, the Cougars are no strangers to traveling across the country and pulling off a stunner — last season, they traveled to Orlando, Fla., and knocked off No. 2 seed UCF on the Golden Knights’ home field.
