WSU baseball heads to the Tri-Cities

WSU will play a home game in Pasco.

WSU Athletic Communications

While WSU puts an emphasis on Spokane with the football program, including playing the spring game in at Joe Albi Stadium each spring, the WSU baseball program turns the Tri-Cities into its home away from Pullman. That will continue on Tuesday when WSU hosts Portland at Gesa Stadium in Pasco.

The Cougars have been playing home games in Pasco for five years, but thus far the results on the field haven't been as great as they might hope. WSU is just 2-5 in seven Tri-Cities games since 2011. The crowds have been excellent, however, with WSU averaging 2,500 fans per game, according to the Tri-City Herald.

The product on the field will hopefully match the crowd tonight with a lackluster Portland team on the other side. Portland is just 10-39 on the season has won just once in its last seven games. The Cougars appear to have a distinct advantage on the mount with Sam Triece taking the mound. He's been solid this year, but has mostly worked out of the bullpen. Portland will start Cole Doherty who brings in a 1-4 record with a 6.59 ERA.

First pitch in Pasco is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. PT.
