WSU basketball is back in action!

That exclamation point may or may not be sarcastic.

Phil Sears-USA TODAY Sports

It's been one week since the New Mexico Bowl and the Cougar men's basketball team is here to help you forget it ever happened. Or to give you something new to be angry about, I guess we'll find out.

WSU hasn't played since losing 64-51 at home to UTEP last Saturday. That game quickly got swept under the rug with the attention on the bowl game. The Cougars return to the court for their final non-conference game against the Fightin' Jerry Rices Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State.

Two things immediately come to mind when I think of Mississippi Valley State. Jerry Rice and the beatings WSU gave the Delta Devils during the Tony Bennett era. WSU beat the Delta Devils 71-26 in 2007 and followed it up with a 76-25 win in 2008. The Cougars started the 2008 game with a 28-0 run and led 41-11 at halftime.

If the Cougars lose today, Bill Moos should cancel the rest of the season.

But Mike Leach, an unquestionably smart man, does things his own way. His reply would be the ole "I am what I am," which means not taking a knee there, and that is what got him where he is. He believes in being aggressive. The thing about Leach is he's not going to go, "My bad. I should have done things differently. You second-guessers are correct!" Not his style.
