WSU announces its preseason basketball event

Washington State will hold another preseason event this season, but this year it's going to be a little different.

Otto Greule Jr

Every year nearly every college basketball team in the country hosts a preseason event on the first day teams are allowed to hold formal practices. Those midnight madness events are the first look at the team with dunk contests and other shenanigans sprinkled in. WSU will once again hold an event, but things will be a little different.

For one, the Cougars aren't going with the midnight madness name. Nope, instead WSU is calling its event the "PREseason FUNKtion." Ya know, because a prefunk is the party before a party and the preseason funktion is the party before the regular season party. And when I say party, I literally mean party.

The PREseason FUNKtion is designed to kick off the 2014-15 men's basketball season and will feature a dance party with music provided by DJ Goldfinger and DJ Royal.

A red carpet entrance and photo area will greet the fans, as those that arrive early will experience the VIP area with pizza and beverages provided.

There will also be prizes provided by Ernie Kent. Someone could win $10,000 by making a half court shot.

Oh yeah, there will be a basketball scrimmage too.

The California team that travels to Pullman on Saturday will look nothing like the one that Washington State beat 44-22 last season, and not just because many of the team’s best defenders are no longer wearing street clothes on the sidelines.
