Cougar basketball struggles continue

You can judge a lot by looking at a series of headlines and the headlines after WSU's loss to Arizona State on Saturday do not paint a pretty picture. The Cougars are currently on the wrong side of things.

The Associated Press went with - "Sun Devils coast past Washington State, 67-55"

The AP changed it up just slightly in a couple places with - "Arizona State breezes past Washington State, 67-55"

Apparently the only challenge headline writers are having is determining which word to use to adequately describe how easy the opponent had it.

Unfortunately that wasn't as bad as it got. Instead, the Spokesman Review really threw a shot to the gut.

"Loss puts Cougars deeper into Pac-12 cellar"

Ouch.

A tidy seven words to describe what is now a 9-game losing streak. The loss also clinched a fifth straight season with a losing record in Pac-12 play. These are not the type of streaks fans want to see in the postgame notes.

If you're looking for some sort of positive, at least the Cougars made SportsCenter.

Before Saturday’s tip off against Arizona State, the Washington State basketball team appeared to have its best chance at winning another Pac-12 game before the season ended. The Cougars were hosting the second-worst team in the conference, and it seemed like an opportune time to end their eight-game losing streak.
