The number 1 is now officially retired at WSU, as Klay Thompson’s jersey ascended to the rafters of Beasley Coliseum in a ceremony at halftime of the Washington State Cougars’ 89-76 victory over the Oregon State Beavers.
Forever a part of @WSUCougarMBB history.

The Golden State Warriors guard and likely future NBA hall of famer gave a fun speech in front of the near-sell out crowd at Beasley, reminiscing about his time in Pullman and thanking as many people as he could think of.
“No matter what uniform I put on ... I will always be a Coug,” Thompson said.
Later: “I’m so grateful for where basketball’s taken me. It’s taken me to China, Brazil, New Zealand, Spain. Around the world. But there’s nowhere like Pullman.”
You can view the full speech below:
Thompson used the rest of his time to just clown around and have as much fun as humanly possible. Pac-12 Networks got him to sit down for an interview during the second half, but it was pretty rocky, given that Klay was most interested in cheering for the Cougs.
Then there was this beauty, when the broadcast tried to interview new football coach Nick Rolovich:

It’s Klay’s world today. We’re all just living in it.
