WSU police arrested and booked freshman football player Emmitt Su'a-Kalio on Thursday for second degree felony assault after he allegedly punched a teammate in the jaw on Tuesday, according to a report by radio station KQQQ,
A phone call to the Whitman County Jail verified that Su'a-Kalio had been there and was released following his initial court appearance on Friday. The identity of the teammate has not been revealed, but the KQQQ report indicated that the damage to the teammate's jaw was extensive enough to require a surgical repair at a Spokane hospital.
Given that no reports have surfaced about conspicuous absences from WSU practices this week, it's reasonably safe to assume that the injured player is not a starter.
Su'a-Kalio is a true freshman defensive lineman from Pago Pago in American Samoa. He was a consensus two-star recruit who also held an offer from Utah (and Wisconsin, if you believe 247sports.com). He hasn't appeared in a game this year.
More updates as we know them.
