Let me preface this discussion by saying it's the offseason and college football betting lines released during the offseason are generally useless. Maybe a line for the season-opener is fine, but an Apple Cup line, released in June?
Regardless, there are betting lines for eight WSU games currently available and I thought it would be interesting to take the temperature of the community to see where everyone stands on each. The lines come from the Golden Nugget and you can see more of them here.
Home | Road | Line |
Auburn | WSU | Auburn by 11-1/2 |
USC | WSU | USC by 21 |
WSU | Stanford | Stanford by 18-1/2 |
WSU | Oregon State | OSU by 13 |
Oregon | WSU | Oregon by 35-1/2 |
WSU | ASU | ASU by 15 |
Arizona | WSU | Arizona by 19 |
Washington | WSU | Washington by 14 |
If I was going to place a bet on any of these games today (legally of course) I would be most comfortable betting on WSU to cover against Oregon. Not because I expect the Cougars to go to Eugene and beat the Ducks, but instead because 35-1/2 is a lot of points to cover. WSU has also avoided complete blowouts against the ducks in recent seasons, losing by an average of just (just?) 20 points since 2010.
My least confident bet would probably be Arizona. WSU lost 48-7 at Arizona in 2009 and 48-20 on the road against the Wildcats in 2007. Bad memories of games in Tuscon make me shy away, no matter the line.
Any lines look appealing?
