Fall camp Day 9 roundup

WSU went through another fall camp practice on Saturday and it was similar to the first eight, just shorter.

The Cougar's time in Lewiston is almost over, but WSU ran through a quick practice on Saturday ahead of Sunday's scrimmage.

Quick notes:

  • WSU's practice lasted just over an hour as Mike Leach gave the team some rest to avoid hitting the mental wall.
  • The Cougars will hold a scrimmage on Sunday with fall camp resuming in Pullman next week.
  • WSU has more experience heading into the season, but the Cougars are still relying on a ton of youth. Based on Christian's practice report, WSU's second-team defense consisted of three true freshman, two redshirt freshman and a true sophomore.

Blurb of the day:

From Christian's post-practice blog:

With the team gathered together after practice, Leach spent a few minutes addressing their academic situation. He told them that while there are still some grades rolling in from the summer semester, the team's combined grade-point average is above 3.0, which would put it in second place among all men's sports teams at WSU (golf is in the lead).

"We had a heck of a semester," Leach said. "We just need to keep doing it and improving it."

Connor Halliday on the short practice, via Christian's story:

"Every short practice that we've had scheduled with Leach has ended up being about three hours, because any time you have a short practice scheduled, if one little thing goes wrong, all hell will break loose," Halliday said. "I said to the team before practice, 'since I've been here, every short practice we've had scheduled has been at least three hours, so get your mental reps in, be positive and don't mess this up.'"

Injury report:

Nothing notable came from practice, Bennett Bontemps and Paris Taylor are among the notable players still limited.

Nothing from WSU Athletics today, but here is a 2013 hype video.

Today's schedule:

The Cougars will hold a roughly 70-play scrimmage on Sunday which is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. PT.
