The day before the day

Most of the preparation is in the books did the Cougars do enough to create some separation?

WSU Athletic Communications

Although they haven't met on the field since 2007, there's been quite a bit of conflict between WSU and Idaho recently. There was the fight last summer which ended Mansel Simmons' football career and that is only the start of it.

Remember Maxx Forde? The son of Brian Forde, Maxx was set to follow his father's path and verbally committed to the Cougars in 2010. That was only the tip of the iceberg, however, with Forde jumping to Idaho on signing day and later saying Paul Wulff threatened to pull Forde's offer if he didn't verbally commit. There was also a back and forth in the media with Wulff blaming Maxx's parents and Brian saying Idaho outrecruited Wulff. Fun times. Bud Withers has more on Forde in the links.

There were also the comments former WSU linebacker coach Jeff Choate made about Idaho last year. Following Idaho's game against LSU, Choate didn't mince words about the Vandals' status as an independent.

"It's really not right what (Idaho) is doing to its players in letting them get beat so they can get a paycheck," Choate said.

Rob Akey, then Idaho's head coach, shot back at Choate saying he should be more worried about Washington State. If those two coaches were still around, there may be some extra bulletin board material this week, but that's diminished somewhat since neither will be on the sidelines tomorrow.

Kevin Gemmell: There is always bad blood between these schools -- which led to actual blood during the summer. The Cougs are clicking while the Vandals are in shambles. Feel pretty confident picking WSU in this rivalry game. Washington State 35, Idaho 7.

Maxx Forde was the son of a Cougar, and not just any one. Back in 1986, Brian Forde established a season record for tackles that still stands at Washington State.
