Mike Leach talks handshakes with Paul Petrino

What exactly did Mike Leach say to Paul Petrino at the end of the Idaho game? Let's find out.

Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

If you think back to the game between WSU and Idaho last season, your main takeaway might be the Cougars' 42-0 win. Maybe you remember Gabe Marks' 43-yard touchdown or Connor Halliday throwing for 346 yards. Most likely, however, you remember the end-of-game exchange between Mike Leach and Paul Petrino.

If not, let's refresh your memory. WSU led 42-0 late in the fourth quarter and pulled a number of defensive starters on Idaho's final drive. The Vandals found some success, moving the ball from their own 17-yard line to deep into WSU territory. The Cougars, held strong inside their 5-yard line. At one point, Leach called timeout during the drive to rally the troops a bit. The Cougars eventually stopped the Vandals on a fourth-down attempt at the 1-yard line.

Petrino apparently didn't appreciate the Cougars' efforts and let Leach know about it during the postgame handshake. Leach responded back by saying "Hey, Ducks are blue!" or something along those lines (h/t to Jeff Collier for that line and the GIFs):

So, why do I bring this all up now? Well, Leach continued his radio tour promoting his new book and the handshake came up in conversation with Bo Mattingly of Sports Talk with Bo Mattingly:

Leach also said this:

Maybe he'll do that in 2016 when the Cougars and Vandals play again. I'm sure Petrino (and Nick Aliotti) would love that.
