Washington State and Colorado haven’t seen a game like this in a while. WSU comes in ranked 22nd by the College Football Playoff committee, visiting a Buffaloes squad that has risen to 10th in those same rankings. That means CU still has a not-so-outside shot at the playoffs. But for today, both teams are playing to stay atop the division standings.
The Cougs have run through Pac-12 play unblemished, taking down all seven conference teams they have faced after a disappointing 1-2 non-conference slate. Colorado will be WSU’s toughest test by far, after the Cougs have rolled to a combined 125-28 score in the past two weeks.
Colorado sits at 8-2, 6-1 in conference play. The Buffaloes’ two losses came at Michigan and at USC, both teams the CFP committee thinks highly of. That’s probably why you see them so much higher than WSU, their wins are pretty similar.
It’s certainly the biggest game WSU has played in over a decade (which will likely be topped by the Apple Cup in a week’s time). The Buffaloes have also went through a tough stretch lately, so this is certainly a massive contest on their side. The Cougs can clinch the Pac-12 North with a win an unlikely UW loss. Colorado can’t clinch, but can be knocked out of the running for the Pac-12 championship game with a loss and wins by Utah and USC.
