WSU scores on a blocked punt for the first time since 2003

The Cougars raced out to a 14-0 lead against Oregon State.

The Washington State Cougars raced out to a 14-0 lead against the Oregon State Beavers, adding to a quick TD on offense with a blocked punt on special teams that was recovered for a touchdown.

As you watch the video, keep an eye on the middle of the formation. You’ll see Kainoa Wilson scoot through the middle of the line untouched, then snake around the punter’s protectors — again untouched — before taking the ball off the kicker’s foot:

The loose ball was scooped up just outside the end zone by reserve linebacker Tristan Brock, who nearly fouled it up by fumbling it before he crossed the goal line, but he was able to fall on it to secure the touchdown.

It was the first career punt block for Wilson, and the first career TD for Brock. According to WSU’s sports information department, it was the first blocked punt returned for a touchdown since 2003, when Jeremy Bohannon returned a Jason Hill blocked punt four yards for a TD.
