Good morning, Coug fans! I hope everyone is staying hydrated as the world enters another heat wave. It’s humid over here in the midwest, which is pretty uncomfortable, but manageable.
On a better note, one other thing that’s heating up? Excitement for the upcoming Washington State football season. And some big news for right tackle Abraham Lucas. Lucas was recently named to Reese’s Senior Bowl watch list. This game might ring a bell, as the most recent Coug to participate in the game was Anthony Gordon.
Lucas is a redshirt senior, and while I chose a picture of him while he wore number 78, he’s rocking 72 now, and the number might carry him right into the Reese’s Senior Bowl. Lucas has started at WSU since his redshirt freshman season in 2018, where he started in all 13 games. He’s a familiar name, therefore no one should need these reminders — however, any opportunity to brag is a solid one.
As for the Reese’s Senior Bowl, the event will take place at the University of South Alabama in early February, so we have plenty of time. The game is essentially the largest scouting event of its kind — in event history, of the 104 total players each year, an average of 36 have been selected within the first three rounds of the NFL draft. Lucas is not the only Pac 12 player named to the watch list; several University of Oregon and University of Washington players, along with Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, USC and UCLA all also got nods.
What a great wave of momentum for Abraham Lucas to ride into as he starts this season! Hopefully this achievement is contagious. Have a great weekend, go Cougs!
