WSU Football Recruiting: Daniel Ekuale, DT from American Samoa, commits to Cougs

The third commit from this past weekend is relative unknown Daniel Ekuale, a big-bodied DT from Samoa.

Russ Isabella-US PRESSWIRE

According to Keenan Bowen of Coug247.com, the Cougs once again reach out to the tiny island of Samoa for their latest commit. Daniel Ekuale (Nu'uuli Voc-Tech, Pago Pago) was one of those guys I was talking about that was a possibility to visit but kinda fall through the cracks in terms of it being known beforehand. Like Emmitt Su'a-Kalio before him, very little information on Ekuale is available. For now, I am unable to properly evaluate him, but let's just assume Joe Salave'a knows what he's doing.

A one time Hawaii commit, Ekuale currently holds offers from the Warriors, Oregon, Oregon State, and UW. Scout lists him as 6'4 and 290, which, whoa. There's your NT, guys.

If we're going to bring in a few Samoan kids every year, I want to make it a point to lock up Salave'a with a lifetime contract. Ekuale is a huge kid, and one can only assume he has yet to be introduced to a top of the line nutrition and conditioning/weight lifting program. If we're going to gamble on a few unknowns each year, let's gamble on extreme size or extreme speed, please.

For now, I'm optimistic, as well as curious. Offers don't tell the whole story, but any time you beat out UW and Oregon for a kid, there's reason for excitement. Welcome Daniel, and Go Cougs.
