Who is left on WSU's recruiting target list?

With less than 24 hours until letters of intent can begin rolling in, we're in the final stages of the 2014 recruiting cycle. That means the attention will soon shift back to the field. But, before it does, we have a lot to get through. For the most part, WSU's 2014 recruiting class is set. Most of the spots are filled with solid verbal commitments. There are, however, a couple of recruiting targets left on the board.

Let's take a quick run through the latest.

Remaining targets:

Marcus Griffin (DT, Bellevue, Wash.)

Griffin took his final visit this past weekend, tripping to Mississippi State. He said the usual things, praising the food, especially sweet tea.

"That food was really good," Griffin said, via Bulldog Blitz. "We don't get that stuff up here. Everywhere I went someone was giving me sweet tea. That was the best sweet tea I've had in my life. I'm going to be addicted to it now."

Griffin will make his decision on Wednesday, choosing from a final four of Washington state, California, Mississippi State and Arizona.

Xavier Ulutu (LB, San Diego, Calif.)

Ulutu took a trip to Fresno State and will now decide between the Cougars and Bulldogs on signing day. He's a Southern California prospect, so the idea of playing close to home is probably a plus. Still, these are the sort of recruiting battles WSU has to win. Not only because Ulutu fills an area of need, but because Pac-12 schools should beat Mountain West Conference schools for recruits practically every time.

Kammy Delp (OL/DT, Pomona, Calif.)

Delp is a bit of an unknown right now. He committed to ASU in early January, only to decommit a couple of weeks later. He reportedly narrowed his top three to Arizona State, UCLA and Washington. The only problem is rumors swirled that those teams were no longer recruiting him. He took an official trip to Oregon State over the weekend. He visited WSU back in October. Nothing appears to indicate the Cougars are still in the mix, with the recruiting services listing them out. Then again, articles from a few days ago have him with a top three of ASU, UW and UCLA. My guess is the Cougars aren't in the mix and he lands at Oregon State.

No longer in the mix:

Austin Maloata (DE, Corona, Calif.)

Maloata was reportedly down to ASU and WSU and possibly even leaning toward the Cougars. Then Oregon swooped in and now Maloata is a Duck. Revenge for Jalen Canty, I suppose.

Brayden Lenius (WR, West Hils, Calif.)

WSU made a late run for Lenius, as his recruiting picked up over the last month or so. When Barry Ware committed, it was unclear if Lenius was still in the plans. With Ronald Monroe flipping to Vanderbilt, it could have opened a spot for Lenius, but regardless of whether WSU was still in pursuit, Lenius isn't going to be a Coug. He narrowed his top three to Utah, Washington and Minnesota, according to Adam Gorney of Rivals.com.

Kaleb McGary (OT, Fife, Wash.)

The 4-star prospect from Fife verbally committed to Washington on Monday. He had a final three of Washington, WSU and Wisconsin. Wisconsin got eliminated because of distance, so it came down to the Cougars and Huskies with Washington nabbing the verbal commitment.

In my opinion, safety is a top three need for the Broncos, specifically the strong safety position and getting a guy who can come in, hit like a ton of bricks, and force turnovers. One such player who has done that throughout his collegiate career is Washington State star Deone Bucannon, one of my favorite prospects going into this year’s draft.

When leading scorer DaVonte Lacy suffered a rib injury at Arizona State in early January, he was told that it would be 4-6 weeks before he could play basketball again. He came back in just under a month to score 10 points in WSU’s 72-67 win over Washington on Saturday, and he says Gallotto is a big reason why.
