WSU football recruiting 2014: Darrien Molton commits to the Cougs

The three-star cornerback becomes the seventh verbal commit to the 2015 class.

Darrien Molton, a consensus three-star cornerback out of Temecula, California, became the seventh player to commit to WSU's 2015 recruiting class this afternoon. The news appears to have first been reported by Adam Gorney of Rivals.com.

Molton chose the Cougars over offers from Colorado, California, Utah and Duke.

Nobody will ever mistake Mike Leach for a defensive coach, but you'd never know it from looking at his 2015 class after Molton's commitment: Five of the seven verbals are defensive players, with three of them defensive backs. It's a position of need, and they just keep adding to the pile that started with signing four defensive backs in the 2014 class.

Molton is 5-foot-10 and 165 pounds. He's pretty jazzed up to play defense, he told Britton Ransford at WazzuWatch.com.

"I love playing defense. I like shutting down a receiver; I like to be physical as well. I like hitting guys."

It sounds like the lead coach in Molton's recruitment was linebackers coach Ken Wilson -- there are more in-depth comments from Molton here (also $) -- and this marks the third big commit on which Wilson was the primary; he also was the lead guy on QB Tyler Hilinski and safety Kameron Powell.
