WSU football recruiting: Willie Sykes flips to Nebraska?

It sure looks that way. We probably should have seen this one coming.

We mentioned it was the silly season of recruiting, and here's your latest example: Less than a week after taking an official visit to WSU and verbally committing to the Cougars, three-star cornerback Willie Sykes now appears to have flipped his commitment to Nebraska after taking an official visit to Lincoln.

Examination of his Twitter timeline indicates he seemed to enjoyed himself with Mike Riley's staff, and WazzuWatch.com's Britton Ransford noticed Sykes even went so far as to change his Twitter background to a Nebraska picture. While there hasn't been a formal report of the switching of allegiances, you'd have to be the most optimistic of Cougar fans to think this is anything other than a flip.

Of course, this probably shouldn't have come as much of a surprise, given that Sykes tweeted this a week before committing to WSU:

While it obviously stinks to lose a commit, WSU has continued to aggressively recruit defensive backs. They're still trying to land four-star Marcus Lewis (a long shot) and they look to be the favorite to land USC decommit Tae'on Mason, a consensus three-star player whom both Rivals and Scout both rate as four stars. And Derrien Molton and juco transfer Treshon Broughton are still committed.

While we laugh about people saying "we never wanted him anyway," the honest truth is that this flip might not hurt much presuming there are no further cornerback defections combined with landing another quality guy.

EDIT, Sunday morning: Or maybe not!

Sykes also has changed his Twitter background again - it's now a picture of him playing DB in high school.

SILLY SEASON.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

EDIT, Tuesday afternoon: Yep.
