WSU using time off before Sun Bowl to make a push in recruiting

The Cougars have hosted 11 official visits thus far in what has been a very busy recruiting season for the Cougars.

James Snook-USA TODAY Sports

Tis' the season ... to be recruiting. Mike Leach does not quite have a list for Santa this year but he does have a recruiting big board he would love to see fill up with commits. The Cougars are preparing for their Sun Bowl match-up on December 26 against Miami, but they are also using the extra time off to focus on recruits.

Leach has been scheduling official visits between bowl game practices and other recruiting obligations. Ten potential recruits have visited Pullman so far in December, and of those eleven, six have already committed to WSU and three of the other four only had their official visits this weekend. WSU has been making their visits count thus far, and hopefully as the recruiting season continues, so will the success.

The Cougars also have eight official visits planned over the course of January. A win in the Sun Bowl over Miami will only boost the momentum for those visits.

Considering the role that assistant coaches play in the recruiting process, it will be interesting to see if there is any positive or negative effect on recruiting now that outside receivers coach Graham Harrell has apparently left for North Texas. It's reported that WSU is going to hire Dave Nichol from East Carolina as his replacement.

Keep checking the CougCenter Big Board for updates on recruiting!
