WSU football recruiting: DT Thomas Toki officially signs letter of intent

Thomas Toki is officially a Coug.

Thomas Toki didn't waste any time making a verbal commitment when he pledged to the Cougars on Christmas Eve of 2013. The consensus 4-star prospect kept his pledge despite plenty of interest and made it officially on Wednesday when he signed his Letter of Intent.

When Toki originally committed to the Cougars, he was one of the top prospects in the state of Washington. His family moved to California not long later and he played his senior season at St. Francis High School in Mountain View, Calif. Rivals.com lists Toki at 6-foot and 307 pounds. He had reported offers from several other notable schools including Arizona State, UCLA, Utah, Oregon State and Oklahoma State, according to Rivals.

Although Toki drew some interest and looked around a bit, he firmed up his commitment in late January. The Cougars will have some big shoes to fill along the defensive line with Toni Pole and Xavier Cooper both departed and there is a chance Toki will be given an opportunity to help fill them from Day 1. He will come to Pullman with great size for a high school prospect and should be in line to push for playing time during fall camp. Whether he plays as a true freshman or redshirts remains to be seen, but it wouldn't be a shock to see him suit up next season.

Brian Anderson's scouting evaluation:

A monster wearing football pads. Straight bullied opposing centers. Really great footwork up front, extremely fast off the ball with good hands. He's one of the prized recruits in this class for a reason...he checks about every box you'd want checked for a defensive lineman.
